Who says it rains in Scotland

Last week I took a nine day trip to Europe. Solo. For nine days I was just myself. For nine days I was not a mom, a wife, a healer, a therapist, a house cleaner, a driver, a butt wiper, or a cook. I gave myself permission to have more. I was deserving enough to have a break from the routine. I knew my children were well cared for by my amazing husband. It was ok to close my office for a week. With the surrender to just be myself and live how I want to live; everything fell into place.

First stop was Scotland where the sun was out most days. Days were filled with tea, peanut butter banana sandwishes, long hikes, lots of laughter and beautiful sunsets. Our car rental was upgraded from a Subaru to a Mercedes. Even the midges gave us a break and rarely bothered us. My travel buddy Jackie was pure joy and everything you would want in a travel compaingn. Next we flew to France and spent three days hiking and climbing in Chamonix. The weather called for rain everyday yet we were blessed with sunshine and a light breeze. At the end of the trip I felt a deep sense of ease and joy. (jet lag included)

I had a lot of aprehention going into the trip. Is it too soon to leave my almost 2 yr old? How can I take another week off work? School just started, won't my family need me? There were plenty of "shoulds" and "what if's" but alas I dropped the shoulds and listened to my body. My body was deeply craving alone time and an adventure. My body knew what it needed. I got on the plance and crossed the pond.
I am trying hard to get out of my own way; to get out of my head and back into my body. We, as a community, are so stuck in our heads and what we think we need to be doing verse just following our bodys intuition. Our bodies always know the way. It is time to start listening to your body. Let it speak to you. Eat what you want to eat, what your body is craving not what you think you should eat. Go for a run because you know it will feel so good not because today is the day you need to run. Rest when you are tired. The more we are able to practice getting out of your head and into our body the more the world will open up in the most magical ways.

So glad you could do that! Solitude is much more important to mental and physical health than most people realize.
